Alex Summer Milne is a writer and director based in London.
She writes darkly funny, sharply observational fiction about womanhood, existential dread and messy relationships – anchored by her signature blend of irreverence, wit and heart. Alex is currently working on her debut novel, Stray, a story about fixation and the myth of self-actualisation.
Alex is a winner of Hachette’s Grow Your Story competition for ‘LGBTQ+ fiction stars of the future’, and developed her first novel under their mentorship. The manuscript was longlisted for the London Writers’ Awards 2026. Her short fiction is published in Superlative Literary Journal, TYPE! Magazine, and was runner-up in the Writing District Prize.
Her latest play, Dumping, previewed at The Cockpit last year, starring Amelia O’Loughlin and Mollie Semple. The whip-smart, tender two-hander about a friendship breakup received four-star reviews and was described as ‘poignant’, ‘relatable’, ‘funny’, and ‘a thought-provoking insight into female friendships’. It is undertaking further development before returning to London.
Alex’s first play, MEGA, ran at the Seven Dials Playhouse and the Stockwell Playhouse, where it was a finalist in their One Act Competition. Paul Vale of The Stage described her as having ‘a gift for writing comedy’. Her debut short film, Bad Legs, a feminist satire, is in post-production with Atemporal Pictures.
As a reader, Alex has worked for literary scout KLO, evaluating manuscripts for book-to-screen adaptation.
She has a first-class degree in English and Creative Writing from Royal Holloway University of London, where she was awarded the Barbara Raw Scholarship. Prior to this, she trained as an actress at Mountview and the London School of Musical Theatre.
